Lilith: The Divine Feminine role model for our times
Some notes on the rebellious feminine, an invitation to journey with your inner masculine, and more.
Well hello,
How are you, really though?
It’s been a funny old few days, and not only have I spent two days of the past week in a deep migraine cave, I’ve heard from multiple other people to say that they have been struggling with similar too.
So if you’re feeling less than yourself at the moment please know that you’re not alone. Remind yourself to keep breathing through it, seek support where you need to and listen to what is coming up to be heard within whatever you are feeling or experiencing.
And meanwhile, allow me to take you on a little journey with one of my favorite Goddess energies…
Lilith: One of the biggest role models we can have right now
As the first-ever woman, Lilith is an incredibly important female figure.
I love her story, not least because there is incredibly beautiful, powerful and revolutionary about it.
With that in mind, I'm hosting a ‘Rekindling Her Stories’ session on Lilith completely free this Solstice.
But more on that shortly. First, some background. Picture the scene…
You’re in the most beautiful place on Earth.
You’re told it's paradise – a garden where everything blooms and blossoms with absolute glory.
Just being there is gorgeous and you’re told that everything you could ever want and need lies within the garden’s walls.
On the other side of those walls? Desolation, suffering, and possibly even death await.
Why would you leave?
Except that steadily you come to realise there is more going on under the oh-so-pretty surface…
Your body and energy aren’t your own.
You can’t be yourself.
You start to see through the veneer and facade of the ‘beauty’.
You hear through the glorious bird song to the emptiness and the sadness beneath.
You recognise the walls of the garden are bars of a gilded cage.
In that situation, many people wouldn’t leave – not because they don’t want to but because it doesn’t seem possible.
They’ve been beaten into a place of submission.
Minimised and shrunk to such a degree that they have no choice but to sit in the painful, terrifying place and do the best they can to convince themselves of the alleged paradise they've been given while trying desperately to ignore all of the signs and knowings to the contrary.
Lilith was not that woman.
When she saw through the veneer of “paradise”, she spread her wings and flew away from Eden.
And while the other side of the wall wasn't necessarily the same as the garden she was used to, it held a sense of possibility and the freedom Lilith had craved.
In the darkness, there was hope.
In the desolation, she could start all over again.
Lilith found her new beginning and created something of her own.
Yet in the centuries since Lilith has been demonised; written out of history completely or cast as the villain, simply because of what she did in that moment.
Simply because she shook shit up and wasn't frightened of change.
Lilith recognised that if you have to lose someone or something to find yourself and create a better world, you damn well do it.
There’s no greater and more important sacrifice than one that brings you home to yourself, and brings the world around you into a place of true alignment.
With that in mind, I believe Lilith is one of the biggest role models we can have in this time of transformation and uncertainty.
She reminds us that change is always possible – you just have to step outside the walls of the gilded cage we’ve been told is paradise.
Isn’t it time that we all took a leaf out of that book?
For me, this is where the Divine Feminine comes into its own.
We’re told the rise of the Goddess will change and save the world.
But it’s not necessarily the Divine Feminine the ‘establishment’ wants us to talk about.
Instead, it’s the rise of a feminine who isn't afraid to shake s**t up by spreading her wings and doing the scary thing;
A feminine who gathers the courage it takes to raise her voice and call on others to do something different;
And a feminine who knows that sometimes revolution is exactly what’s needed – especially when that revolution starts within.
Why does she do it?
Because in her heart, she knows she can't do anything else, not without betraying herself and the entire world – those who came before and those who will come after.
So I invite you to join me this Summer Solstice as we claim our own place as revolutionaries by remembering:
Within each of us, there’s a Lilith;
Beside each of us, there’s a Lilith;
And in every moment, we can tap into Lilith – a Goddess, a woman, who isn't quiet and malleable, but who shakes shit up.
Head to my ‘Rekindling Her Stories’ page to book your spot on my session with Lilith. It’s completely free to attend but you will need to book your place to ensure you receive the link.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for this one and, more than that, I can’t tell you how excited I am to share Lilith’s story and Her energy with you.
Ready to dance with the Divine Masculine? I need you!
A little change of tone here as I ask for your help!
Though I am ALL about the Goddess, as you’ll know if you’ve read The Divine Feminist, I’m a firm believer that we need both the yin and the yang; effectively the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine to bring our world back into balance.
Over the past two years I’ve been studying towards an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology and am now working on my dissertation. For that project I’d like to talk to a small number of women who are or have been participants in women’s circles and are willing to talk about their experience of/ connection with the true, inner or Divine Masculine.
Taking part won’t take a lot of your time - it will require about 45 minutes of one-to-one Zoom time with me in total, so if that’s something you’re interested in then please let me know!
And if not then watch this space - I have a feeling that this project will form the underpinnings of a future book which I’ll look forward to sharing with you when the time comes!
Divine Feminism elsewhere
As you know, I love to give you a little heads-up on some of my favourite divinely feminist news out there. So here are just a few things that have given me hope lately:
The woman who opened her own sports bar, showing only women’s sport. As if that weren’t cool enough the bar’s name? The Sports Bra!
News of the Welsh Ballroom Community, a space in the Welsh Valleys where LGBTQIA+ people can be truly and authentically themselves.
If you’re looking for the perfect response to anyone complaining about Disney’s The Little Mermaid remake, look no further. This piece on the history of Black mermaids is a great read.
Meanwhile if you want to know the brands to shop with, here’s a list of all brands currently being boycotted for their support of Pride month. They sound like great places to spend cash if you ask me!
Finally, how about this article for insights into how learning about the Circadian rhythms of plants can change the way we grow them?
That’s everything from me for now. I’ll be back in your inbox next month but in the meantime be sure to book your spot on the Solstice Re-Kindling Her Stories session and join me to journey with Lilith - I’d love to share her story with you!
